Colorado State University and University of Northern Colorado Set to Clash in Mountain West Conference Showdown
This weekend, the Colorado State University (CSU) Rams and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Bears will face off in a highly anticipated Mountain West Conference matchup. The game, which marks CSU's final season in the conference before moving to the Pac-12 in 2026, will take place at CSU's Canvas Stadium.
With a seating capacity of 36,500 fans and standing room for an additional 4,500, the stadium is expected to be filled with passionate supporters from both sides. The series between these two institutions dates back to 1899, and CSU currently leads with a record of 19 wins to UNC's single victory.
The Bears' football game this weekend is significant for them, as they are 1-0 for the first time since 2017, following their season-opening win against Division II Chadron State. However, CSU has had a challenging start to their season, having lost their opener to the University of Washington with a score of 38-21.
The Rams' starting quarterback, Peter Costelli, has been sidelined for most of the season due to an injury sustained during the season-opener. In his absence, backup Eric Gibson Jr., a transfer from Louisiana State University and Monterey Peninsula College, will lead the team's offense.
CSU coach Jay Norvell remains optimistic, stating that his team has "championship DNA in our locker room." The Rams have a home record of 11-9 under Norvell, who is in his fourth season as their coach.
UNC, under the guidance of head coach Ed Lamb, will be aiming to break the series' streak and secure a much-needed victory. They will need to focus on winning the game at the line of scrimmage and physically dominating their opponents.
The game will be broadcast on Altitude or Altitude, and can also be listened to on Pirate Radio (93.5 FM) or at pirateradio935.com. Live stats for the game can be found on CSURams.com/sports/football/schedule.
Last year's Ag Day game between UNC and CSU saw the Rams emerge victorious with a score of 38-17. In the 2021 edition of this event, CSU wore orange jerseys and went by the nickname "Aggies." Kicker Jacob Willig added a 38-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter in the win.
With both teams eager to secure a win, this game promises to be an exciting and closely contested match. CSU will be playing University of Texas San Antonio on the 20th of September, while UNC will look to build on their momentum in their upcoming game against Colorado State University this weekend.
