United Arab Emirates seek to demonstrate their prowess in the tri-nation series, as they square off against an enthusiastic Pakistan in Sharjah.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is all set to take on Pakistan and Afghanistan in the upcoming Tri-Nations series, with the matches set to be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the UAE.
The UAE, who have been in impressive form lately, have already secured victories against Afghanistan, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. Captain Muhammad Waseem expressed optimism about their performance in the series, stating that they have been playing well in recent years.
In contrast, the demand for tickets for the Pakistan vs Afghanistan game was high, with approximately three quarters of the stadium's attendees supporting Afghanistan. The largest stand for Afghanistan supporters was filled to capacity, while the stand for Pakistan's supporters had empty seats at the back.
The first game of the series saw a 39-run victory for Pakistan, with Salman Agha scoring 53 runs from 36 balls. Mohammed Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf contributed to Pakistan's late scoring, while Rashid Khan scored 39 runs from 16 balls, including five sixes, for Afghanistan. However, Khan's efforts were not enough to prevent Afghanistan's defeat.
Rashid Khan had pleaded for unity in the stands before the series, following the ugly scenes that marred the last meeting between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Sharjah. Afghanistan fans arrived in large numbers and were segregated from the Pakistan fans to ensure a peaceful atmosphere.
Captain Waseem is hopeful that the UAE can prove their worth, regardless of the ticket prices, and believes that the series will provide an excellent opportunity for the team to showcase their skills. Salman Agha, Pakistan's captain, shares this sentiment, stating that the series is excellent preparation for the Asia Cup.
The UAE is eager to make a mark in the series, having won against both Afghanistan and Pakistan in their previous encounters. With the talent and determination displayed in their recent matches, it is certain that the UAE will put up a strong fight against their rivals. The Tri-Nations series promises to be an exciting and closely contested event, with fans eagerly awaiting the action-packed matches ahead.
