Union opposes discussion on "liberty day" concerning children's safety
In the ongoing debate about lifting all Covid-19 measures, the federal managing director of the Children's Protection Association, Daniel Grein, has raised concerns about the potential impact on children and adolescents.
According to Grein, children have made significant sacrifices over the past one and a half years to protect other parts of society. However, their needs and rights have received little attention during this period.
Grein argues that children have a right to education, leisure, and health, and these rights should be given more focus, rather than celebrating the supposedly regained freedom of adults on their backs. He believes that children have a significant role in protecting society during the pandemic.
The discussion about dropping all measures ignores the needs of unvaccinated population groups, particularly children under 12 years old. Grein finds the idea of a "Freedom Day" too risky due to the unknown long-term effects of Covid-19 infections in children. He considers it cynical to expose children to the risk of infection uncontrolled at this time.
Grein also points out that children and adolescents are particularly affected by the debate on lifting all measures because they face significant developmental, educational, and mental health challenges due to the pandemic-related restrictions.
In light of these concerns, Grein opposes the debate about lifting all Covid-19 measures. He believes that it is inappropriate to ignore the needs of children during the pandemic. Instead, he calls for a balanced approach that prioritises the protection and well-being of all members of society, including children.
