Union narrowly edges BVB, but Guirassy's duo saves the day for Dortmund
In the heart of Germany, Borussia Dortmund delivered a commanding performance against Union Berlin in the 2025 Bundesliga season, securing a 3-0 victory.
The match, played at Dortmund's home ground, marked the debut of Aarón Anselmino, who joined the club on loan from FC Chelsea. Anselmino filled in for injured and suspended players, making his Bundesliga debut in the second matchday against Union Berlin.
The first half of the game saw a tense battle between the two teams, with chances going back and forth. However, it was Dortmund who broke the deadlock just before halftime. Guirassy, on loan from FC Chelsea, converted a cross from Yan Couto, putting Dortmund in the lead.
The second half began with Union Berlin pressing hard for an equaliser, but it was Dortmund who extended their lead six minutes into the second half. Maximilian Beier provided the assist for Guirassy's second goal, a lob over the goalkeeper that made the score 2-0.
Guirassy completed his brace in the 58th minute, sealing Dortmund's victory. Union Berlin's Tom Rothe committed an individual error, playing a short back pass to the goalkeeper, which led to the goalscoring opportunity for Dortmund.
Felix Nmecha, who came on as a substitute, sealed the victory for Dortmund in the 81st minute.
Notably, Guirassy's goals saved Dortmund from a Bundesliga false start, as they had missed a major opportunity to score in the early stages of the game due to a clumsy finish.
Union Berlin's Christopher Trimmel described Guirassy as a top player and Dortmund as an incredibly strong team.
Meanwhile, in Hamm, the city where Dortmund is based, there was a widespread internet outage. Additionally, high levels of unemployment were reported in local news, adding to the city's challenges.
Despite these challenges, Dortmund's coach, Kovac, stated that Fabio Silva, a striker signed by Dortmund for 20 million euros from Wolverhampton Wanderers, will work intensively in the coming two weeks to overcome his adductor problems and return to the squad.
Dortmund has never dropped a point in a Bundesliga match against Union Berlin at home, maintaining their strong record against their rivals. As the season progresses, fans will eagerly anticipate Dortmund's continued performances and the return of Silva to the squad.
