The city of Stuttgart has welcomed a new addition to its services, as the Violence Ambulance has officially opened its doors. This development, funded by the state with 100,000 euros, is one of four Violence Ambulances in the state of Baden-Württemberg, joining those in Heidelberg, Freiburg, and Ulm.

The Violence Ambulance offers a procedure-independent evidence securing process, allowing victims to decide at their own pace whether to file a complaint. This service is operated by the Institute of Forensic and Traffic Medicine at the University Hospital Heidelberg in cooperation with the Klinikum Stuttgart, making it an outpost of the University Hospital Heidelberg.

Minister Manne Lucha stated that the Violence Ambulance strengthens active victim protection in the state and sends a clear signal to perpetrators that every crime can be reported, even years later. The annual state funding for the Violence Clinic Stuttgart amounts to 400,000 euros, with the state government supporting its operation.

Barbara Straub, the equal opportunities officer of the state capital Stuttgart, expressed her pleasure about the opportunity for victims of violence to have evidence secured in a legally admissible manner in Stuttgart. She emphasized the importance of psychosocial support for victims, stating that building a good procedure for this will be an important task.

The Violence Ambulance is located next to the emergency room at the Klinikum Stuttgart. This location ensures easy access for victims, and the Violence Ambulance will collaborate closely with Stuttgart Hospital's emergency rooms, child protection team, and gynecology department, forming a strong partnership.

Prof. Dr. med. Kathrin Yen, Medical Director of the Institute of Forensic and Traffic Medicine at the UKHD and founder of the Violence Ambulance Heidelberg, stated that the examinations offered at the Violence Ambulance help not only to identify endangered people, but also to secure legally admissible evidence, significantly increasing the likelihood of conviction.

The first three Violence Ambulances in Baden-Württemberg were opened in 2015, and the state government supports these facilities with a total of 950,000 euros. It is crucial to note that the establishment and operation of these clinics align with the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence, known as the Istanbul Convention.

According to statistics, at least one in three women in Germany has experienced physical and/or sexualized violence at least once in her life, and about one in four women is affected by physical or sexualized violence by their current or former partner. The Violence Ambulance in Stuttgart aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for victims, allowing them to take the necessary steps towards justice and healing.

In conclusion, the opening of the Violence Ambulance in Stuttgart marks a significant step forward in the state's efforts to combat violence against women. This new facility offers victims a crucial service, providing them with the opportunity to secure evidence in a legally admissible manner, regardless of whether or not they choose to file a police report. The Violence Ambulance is a testament to the state's commitment to active victim protection and sends a clear message to perpetrators that every crime will be taken seriously.
