In recent times, Germany has found itself embroiled in a heated debate over the definition of a woman and the rights of transgender individuals. This controversy, often seen as a part of a broader right-wing cultural war, has raised concerns about the societal acceptance and safety of trans people, particularly trans women.

The Self-Determination Act, designed to allow individuals to legally change their gender, is under scrutiny. The CDU/CSU party has proposed changes to this act and the creation of special registers to record changes of status for queer, agender, trans, inter, and non-binary people. Critics argue that these changes will further scrutinize and question the womanhood of trans people, particularly trans women.

The debate, however, is not focused on gaps in healthcare or protection against violence for trans people. Instead, it serves to create a transphobic and transmisogynistic societal climate, making coming out more difficult. This is evident in the case of Marla-Svenja Liebich, known for her queerphobia, who has likely fled to Russia.

Society tolerates transgender identity conditionally, often questioning its authenticity and scrutinizing the biography of every trans woman to judge their case. This was evident in the lengthy, expensive, and time-consuming trials that trans people, especially trans women, must endure to fight for their rights.

The societal acceptance of trans people is a fight for every minority that is socially oppressed. Trans people, especially those who are multiply marginalized like Cleo, are in the worst position due to societal oppression. Cleo's case, where she was convicted for manslaughter, has sparked discussions about racist, transphobic, and transmisogynistic narratives.

Cleo was packed into a men's prison and her behavior was labeled as manipulative, despite her ineligibility for the Self-Determination Act due to her rejected asylum status. This reflects the duty to assess that has been replaced by a societal assessment of trans people's gender.

In a positive note, a trans woman recently won a case against the right-wing portal Nius in Frankfurt Regional Court. However, domestic violence remains a reality for many trans people, with accessible shelters often hard to find.

The right-wing cultural war continues to affect the care and acceptance of trans people in society. The current identity carrier of Marla-Svenja Liebich remains unknown, but her influence and the impact of the right-wing cultural war on transgender rights are still being felt. It is crucial for society to move towards true acceptance and support for all trans people.
