The ICE line, a critical railway connection between Nuremberg and Erfurt, is temporarily closed for scheduled maintenance and repair work. The tunnel in question is part of the line's 107-kilometer length, with 41 kilometers running through tunnels and 12 kilometers over bridges.

It's worth noting that the last station training for the rescue services in this ICE tunnel was held in 2017, according to the Ministry of the Interior. Deutsche Bahn organised the last exercise before 2017.
