Unauthorized individuals posing as bank employees have been apprehended by Polish authorities, allegedly for stealing large sums of money.
In the quiet town of Quadrath-Ichendorf, a series of fraud incidents have been reported to the Rhein-Erft Circle Police.
On June 23, several women were tricked into revealing their bank details over the phone by an unknown caller. The suspect, posing as a bank employee, convinced the victims to hand over their bank cards under false pretenses. The suspect then fled with the cards and initiated withdrawals of several hundred euros each. The victims quickly filed complaints with the police.
In a separate incident on August 16, an unknown person called a citizen in Quadrath-Ichendorf, claiming there was something wrong with her bank account. After obtaining the bank card, the suspect fled with it. The Bergheim woman noticed the fraud and reported it to the police.
The suspect in these incidents has not been specifically named or described in the available reports. However, the police have released photos of an unknown man involved in a similar scam in Bonn who pretended to be in an emergency and convinced a 19-year-old to hand over cash on July 7, 2025.
The investigations by the responsible criminal officers are ongoing. The police are accepting tips from the public regarding these incidents at 02271 81-0 or via email at [email protected].
The Rhein-Erft Circle Police advise citizens to stay skeptical and not to give out information about valuables, cash, or bank accounts to callers. It is also recommended that citizens call the company themselves instead of providing sensitive information. If you have prevented a fraud attempt yourself, the police encourage you to report it to them on the emergency number '110'.
Bank employees never ask for login details, so citizens should not provide them to callers. The police's crime prevention department can provide further information on this topic at 02271 81-4848.
For press inquiries, please contact the Rhein-Erft Circle Police Press and Public Relations at 02271 81-3305, fax 02271 81-3309, or email [email protected].
The suspect is described as being 175 to 180 cm tall, slim, with dark hair, and wearing dark clothing. In another incident, the suspect appeared at a victim's house in Quadrath-Ichendorf and fled with the money after the call.
The police are urging vigilance in the community and remind citizens to report any suspicious activity immediately.
