In the Higher Regional Court in Dresden, a trial is currently underway involving Maximilian Krah, a former Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Germany. Krah is facing allegations of espionage and passing confidential information to Chinese authorities.

According to the indictment, Jian G., a suspected accomplice, is also on trial. Jian G., who was an employee of Krah since 2015, is accused of acting as an agent for a Chinese intelligence service during his employment. He allegedly had unrestricted access to Krah's personal accounts from 2019 to 2024.

Jian G. is alleged to have collected information and forwarded partially confidential documents to Chinese authorities. He is also accused of gathering personal information about the Alternative for Germany (AfD) leadership and spying on Chinese dissidents. Jaqi X., another suspect, is accused of assisting the defendant by working at Leipzig Airport and repeatedly transmitting data about flights, cargo, and passengers, especially regarding the transport of military goods.

The prosecutor's office has applied to lift Krah's immunity as a Bundestag member. The Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office is investigating Krah's role in the alleged espionage activities of his former employee. When asked about possible payments from his former employee, Krah invoked his right to refuse testimony.

Maximilian Krah won the direct mandate in the Bundestag election in the Chemnitz surroundings - Erzgebirgskreis II constituency. He served as a member of the European Parliament from 2019 to 2025. The former MEP is accused of delegating tasks such as managing access rights and sorting emails and appointments to his team, which may have included Jian G.

Seven more trial dates are scheduled until the end of September. It remains to be seen how this high-profile case will unfold in the coming weeks.
