UN COP30 Unveils Bold Roadmap for Nature-Based Climate Solutions
A new report on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) was unveiled at the UNFCCC COP30 in Belem, Brazil. The ENACT Partnership launched the NbS Accelerator Pathways Report during a high-level event with ministers, officials, and civil society leaders in attendance. The document aims to guide countries in embedding nature-focused strategies into climate, biodiversity, and development plans.
The ENACT Partnership, a coalition of over 25 governments and organisations, developed the report to speed up the adoption of NbS. It outlines a strategic framework for large-scale change, targeting six interconnected systems—governance, finance, and societal engagement—to maximise impact. Recommendations are built around four key pillars: preparing for transformation, aligning policies, securing innovative funding, and involving all sectors of society.
The report directly supports COP30's Action Agenda by offering a roadmap for national commitments. It highlights case studies from ENACT members, showing how NbS deliver co-benefits across communities and industries. One example is Mongolia's *Green Mongolia* programme, which restores watersheds in the Gobi region and promotes community-led rangeland management. These efforts boost climate resilience, protect ecosystems, and support herder livelihoods while aligning with global sustainability frameworks. During the launch, Mongolia formally joined the ENACT Partnership. The country's existing projects, such as watershed restoration and biodiversity initiatives, reflect the report's emphasis on inclusive, nature-anchored solutions. The event underscored the need for systemic change to meet global climate and biodiversity targets.
The NbS Accelerator Pathways Report provides a structured approach for countries to scale up nature-based solutions. It aligns with COP30 priorities and offers practical steps for governance, finance, and societal collaboration. Mongolia's membership and ongoing projects serve as a model for integrating NbS into national strategies.
