In a recent statement, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has called for a wide array of countries to provide security guarantees to Ukraine, particularly in the wake of the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Wadephul emphasized the crucial role of these guarantees in supporting Ukraine's defense efforts. He believes that countries such as the United States and Japan, among others, should be involved in this initiative. According to Wadephul, around 30 countries have declared their readiness to provide such guarantees, although the exact names of the other 29 countries were not specified in the available information.

Japan is one of the countries that have expressed their willingness to support Ukraine, as mentioned by Wadephul. He also highlighted that the security guarantee for Ukraine, if violated, is considered an attack on Ukraine.

Wadephul has been vocal about his stance for clear resistance alongside Ukraine, should Russian President Vladimir Putin continue to refuse negotiations. He has urged Putin to lay down his arms and engage in negotiations, but did not clarify what specific terms he expects from Putin at the negotiating table.

The foreign minister also warned against a "dictated peace," emphasizing that Ukraine should not be asked to consider territorial concessions without receiving a genuine security guarantee from multiple states. He did not elaborate on the consequences of a "dictated peace" for Ukraine.

Wadephul suggested that this approach could serve as a basis for achieving peace in Europe. However, he did not discuss any alternative strategies for achieving peace in Europe other than his proposed approach.

In a hopeful tone, Wadephul expressed his belief that by persisting on this, he might convince Russian President Vladimir Putin. He did not specify which countries beyond those already mentioned would provide security guarantees to Ukraine.

Despite the challenges, Wadephul believes that security guarantees for Ukraine should be similar to what NATO membership entails. He did not discuss the consequences if these guarantees are not met, nor did he elaborate on the steps that would follow after the guarantees are in place.

As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, the international community will be closely watching the developments and the potential roles of various countries in providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
