In the Leningrad region of Russia, firefighters have been dispatched to extinguish a blaze at the port of Ust-Luga. Meanwhile, a significant event unfolded at the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, as Russian authorities reported a drone attack by Ukraine, causing a fire and damage to a transformer.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the attack on the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant was acknowledged. Despite the incident, radiation levels near the plant remained within the normal range, and no injuries were reported. Monitoring by the IAEA confirmed the normal radiation levels.
The IAEA chief, Rafael Mariano Grossi, underscored the importance of protecting all nuclear facilities in the wake of this event. However, Ukraine did not immediately comment on the attack.
Russian officials claimed to have intercepted nearly 100 Ukrainian drones over their territory during the night, with around 10 reportedly shot down at the port of Ust-Luga. In response, Ukraine reported firing 72 drones and decoys, along with a cruise missile, into its own territory over the same period.
Elsewhere, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy delivered remarks on I-Day, commemorating Ukraine's independence from the erstwhile Soviet Union. In his speech, President Zelenskyy expressed his vision for a Ukraine that can live in security and peace.
