New NLGRB Board Brings Expertise to Uganda's Gaming Sector
Uganda's National Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (NLGRB) has welcomed a new board of directors, tasked with navigating the complex and rapidly evolving gaming sector. The new board, led by Mr. Kenneth Kitariko, comprises individuals with expertise in capital markets, public planning, sports leadership, tax policy, law enforcement, and governance.
Mr. Kitariko brings over 25 years of experience in financial markets and regulatory reform to the new board. His strategic insight, reformist mindset, and focus on governance excellence and international best practices will be instrumental in guiding the NLGRB.
ACP Odong Mark Paul, a seasoned law enforcement professional, offers a strong foundation in compliance, public safety, and operational oversight. His expertise will help ensure vigilance against illegal and harmful gaming practices.
Ms. Faridah Bahemuka Murungi, a seasoned legal and tax policy expert, brings deep experience in treaty negotiation, fiscal governance, and transparency. Her expertise is key to maintaining integrity in a risk-prone industry.
Ms. Esther Akullo, a planning and accountability specialist, brings valuable skills in public sector rigor and performance alignment. Her focus on results measurement, stakeholder coordination, and systems strengthening will be crucial in driving the NLGRB's performance.
William Blick, with global experience in sports governance and stakeholder engagement, including leadership roles with the Uganda Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Federation, will support oversight of responsible sports betting.
Together, the board's combined strengths position them to deliver credible oversight, expand revenue contribution, and safeguard public interest in an increasingly digital and complex gaming environment.
The outgoing NLGRB Board, chaired by Mr. Aloysius Mugasa Adyeri, was commended for its transformative leadership in reforming a once chaotic sector. Hon. Matia Kasaija, Uganda's Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, officiated the handover ceremony.
Minister Kasaija expressed gratitude to the outgoing board, CEO Mr. Denis Mudene Ngabirano, and the Secretariat for driving a transformation in the gaming sector. The new board is expected to build upon this foundation and steer the NLGRB towards governance excellence and international best practices.
