Uber initiates 'Connect' delivery service for all items in Egypt
Uber, the ride-hailing giant, has made its foray into the on-demand delivery market in Egypt with the launch of its service 'Uber Connect'. This marks the first time this service is being offered in the Middle East and North Africa.
The service, available through the main Uber app, offers two services: door-to-door delivery and courier services for purchasing items from nearby stores. With the courier service, users can request couriers to pick-up or purchase items on their behalf from local stores. This service is particularly useful for those who prefer to shop online but need assistance with picking up or purchasing items.
The door-to-door delivery service, on the other hand, allows users to send and receive packages to and from family and friends. The delivery orders have a limit of a maximum of 10 items per order, and the total weight must be under 10 kgs.
The base fare for Uber Connect in Cairo is EGP 4, and for every delivery, users will be charged EGP 2.15 per kilometer and EGP 0.25 per minute. This pricing structure aims to provide users with affordable and convenient delivery solutions.
It's important to note that the items requested to be purchased by the courier should not exceed EGP 500 ($31) for individual items, and for packages being sent to friends and family, the total value should not exceed EGP 1,000 ($63).
Uber's entry into the Egyptian on-demand delivery market comes after the exit of Glovo, a popular 'deliver anything' service in Egypt, earlier this year. Other companies offering similar services in Egypt include Uber's Middle Eastern subsidiary Careem and Saudi's Mrsool.
Uber's delivery service in Egypt is provided through its scooter partners, ensuring efficient and timely delivery of packages. With this launch, Uber aims to redefine convenience and ease of shopping for its users in Egypt.
