UAE residents may be granted a five-day holiday for Eid Al Fitr in 2025.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is gearing up for an extended public holiday during Eid Al Fitr 2025, marking the first such break of the year. The holiday duration depends on the sighting of the crescent moon, which determines the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
According to the Dubai Astronomy Group, Ramadan is predicted to last 30 days, leading to a five-day holiday for residents. The holiday would commence from the weekend preceding March 30 and extend till April 2. However, if the crescent moon is sighted on March 29, Ramadan will end at 29 days, resulting in a four-day break from Saturday, March 30, to Tuesday, April 1.
The beginning of Eid al-Fitr in 2025 is expected to be determined by the observation of the new moon marking the end of Ramadan. This is likely to occur on the evening of March 29 or 30, with the Eid al-Fitr celebration scheduled to start on March 30, 2025.
Residents are encouraged to participate in the traditional moon-sighting process, observing the western horizon at sunset for the crescent moon. If they spot the crescent, they can report their observation to local authorities. The UAE's moon-sighting committee will convene on Saturday, March 29 (Ramadan 29) to confirm the start of Eid.
The official confirmation of Eid Al Fitr holiday dates will be announced by the UAE moon-sighting committee on March 29. Until then, residents can prepare for a potential five-day holiday, eagerly awaiting the sighting of the crescent moon to mark the end of Ramadan and the beginning of the joyous celebration of Eid Al Fitr.
