British Foreign Secretary David Lammy Fined for Fishing Without a License

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy found himself in hot water recently after an incident involving fishing without a license. The incident occurred at Lammy's country estate south of London on Aug. 8.

According to the Environment Agency, anyone over 13 in England and Wales needs a license for freshwater fishing. Lammy, who apparently was not in possession of one, was issued a warning for publicizing his offense. The highest fine that could have threatened him was up to 2,500 pounds sterling, equivalent to approximately $3,380.

Lammy's spokesperson described the incident as an "administrative oversight." The Foreign Secretary promptly purchased a fishing license after the incident and reported himself to the agency. Inexperienced anglers caught without a permit are usually given warnings, the Environment Agency confirmed.

Interestingly, during the fishing trip, no fish were caught by Lammy. U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who was also present during the outing, did not comment on whether he had a fishing license. No comment was immediately received from the spokesperson of Vice President Vance regarding the incident.

Vice President Vance, however, did provide fishing tips to Lammy earlier this month. It is unclear if these tips played a role in the "administrative oversight." The case against the Miami attorney accused of bribing DEA agents, or the TSA banning some hairstyling tools from suitcases, were not mentioned in the provided paragraph.

In this sense, David Lammy apparently had some beginner's luck in receiving a warning instead of a hefty fine. The fishing of an orange shark off Costa Rica was also not part of this story.
