U.S. Men's National Team's Yunus Musah approaching a temporary transfer to Atalanta, potentially with a purchasing option from AC Milan

U.S. Men's National Team player Yunus Musah seems to be on the brink of transferring to Atalanta on a loan-buy agreement, with AC Milan potentially involved.

American midfielder Yunus Musah is considering a move to Atalanta, as he seeks a fresh start while remaining in Italy. The potential transfer, which could be finalised through a loan deal from AC Milan until June 30, 2026, with an option for Atalanta to sign him permanently for around €24-25 million, would allow Musah to return to Champions League action.

Milan missed out on Champions League participation last season, but Atalanta, who finished third in the 2024-25 campaign, will play their first Champions League match against holders PSG on Sept. 17. If the transfer goes through, Musah could join nine other Americans in Champions League action this season.

Ivan Jurić, Atalanta's manager, plays a formation that could better suit Musah's strengths. The midfielder has struggled to get consistent playing time and roles under four managers at Milan, and Atalanta's persistent interest in him could lead to a transfer.

As the transfer window closes on Sept. 1, Musah will wait for discussions to be completed before making a potential move to Bergamo. The 19-year-old has expressed happiness at Milan but is weighing up the opportunity to add physicality and pace to central midfield areas at Atalanta.

If the transfer occurs, Musah would be seeking a fresh start while staying in Italy, where he has already made a name for himself as a talented young player. The move would provide him with the chance to establish himself as a key player for Atalanta and potentially earn a place in the United States Men's National Team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as discussions between AC Milan and Atalanta continue.
