Festival of Cultures Returns to Osnabrück: A Celebration of Diversity and Unity
The vibrant city of Osnabrück is gearing up for the return of its annual Festival of Cultures, taking place from September 13 to September 30. This year's event promises to be a celebration of cultural participation, international cooperation, and peaceful coexistence.
Kicking off on the weekend of September 13 and 14, the festival will feature over 60 associations from around 25 nations. These associations will showcase their unique cultures through country-specific cuisine, information, actions, and a colourful stage program. On September 13, the international artists performing at the festival include Dikanda from Poland, Divanhana from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Telli Turnalar with music from Anatolia, Hasan Azarmehr and the jazz trio JMO, and Grupo Gerações.
The festival, which takes place in various locations across the city, will also feature a Fado evening, a jazz concert, and two guitar virtuosos from Anatolia and Andalusia. The Damayan association, which has been actively involved in Osnabrück's Peace City for over 35 years, will offer traditional Philippine dance at the festival.
Elizabeth Tiemann, the chairwoman of Damayan, is a long-standing figure in Osnabrück's cultural scene. The Basmah Women's Association will be participating in the Festival of Cultures for the first time. The Muslim Youth Community Osnabrücker Land e. V. will also be debuting at the festival.
On September 14, a traditional Festival of Cultures will take place from 1 pm to 7 pm. This event will feature around 25 contributions from dance and music. The complete program of the festival can be found on the official website.
The festival sends a clear signal for peaceful, open coexistence and against racism and discrimination. It is organized by the municipal Office for Peace Culture in cooperation with various associations, initiatives, and cultural institutions.
