Two Waimea school now receive generous transportation support through the donation of two buses by the Benioff family.

Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School has received a generous boost with the arrival of two new 80-passenger buses, courtesy of a significant donation from local philanthropists Marc and Lynne Benioff.

The new buses, shipped from California, are a welcome addition for students from Kawaihae Hawaiian Homes, easing morning traffic congestion as they make their way to Lakeland. These buses are equipped with modern features such as air conditioning, cameras for security, GPS tracking for improved route planning and reliability, and are Thomas-built for durability.

The new buses also support place-based learning for each grade level at the Title I school, enabling students to participate in huaka'i (cultural and environmental excursions) that connect classroom learning to the land and community. This enriched learning experience is crucial for the school, which serves families who qualify for free and reduced lunch.

Principal Janice English expressed her gratitude to Marc and Lynne Benioff for their continued support of public education in the community. The Benioffs have been generous supporters of education, donating nearly $10 million to Donors Choose, a nonprofit organisation that helps teachers acquire classroom resources, health care tools, and enriched learning experiences.

Marc and Lynne Benioff have also supported over $250 million in philanthropic causes on Hawaii Island and across the state. With these new buses, all students within the Waimea boundary can now travel safely and on time to school.

As traffic congestion eases and students have the opportunity to learn outside the classroom, the community can look forward to the positive impact these buses will have on the lives of the students at Waimea Middle Public Conversion Charter School.
