Two Scottish Distilleries Shine at 2025 Las Vegas Spirits Awards
Two Scottish whisky distilleries have made waves at the 2025 Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards. Lindores Abbey and Isle of Raasay took top honours, with Raasay's cask-strength expression named Best Scotch. Both distilleries have built reputations for quality, using distinct methods and local ingredients to craft their spirits.
Lindores Abbey Distillery sits near the ruins of a 12th-century abbey in Newburgh, Fife—a site often called the birthplace of Scotch whisky. The distillery produces an unpeated single malt using Fife-grown barley and water from an on-site well. Their whisky matures in a mix of casks, including ex-Bourbon, Oloroso sherry, and STR red-wine barrels. At this year's awards, Lindores Abbey scored 98 out of 100, continuing a streak of success after winning Double Gold at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Isle of Raasay, Scotland's first legal distillery on the Inner Hebridean island, follows a different approach. Their 'house style' blends two new-make spirits—one unpeated, one lightly peated—matured separately before being combined. The Isle of Raasay Cask Strength expression has already earned acclaim, taking Gold at the 2022 International Wine & Spirit Competition and Double Gold in San Francisco in 2023. This year, it secured Best Scotch with a near-perfect score of 99. The Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards, held annually in the U.S., judges entries on appearance, aroma, palate, balance, and finish. Medals range from Bronze to Platinum, with special recognition for category winners. Both distilleries have outperformed established brands in recent years, with Lindores Abbey surpassing competitors like Glenfiddich in the Lowland class.
The 2025 awards confirm the rising status of Lindores Abbey and Isle of Raasay in the whisky world. Lindores Abbey's consistent high scores and Raasay's Best Scotch title reflect their distinct production methods and commitment to quality. Both distilleries now stand among Scotland's most celebrated names.
