Two local guides were fatally struck down during an infiltration incident in Gurez.

In a significant development, a joint operation between the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) averted an infiltration attempt in the forests of Gurez on Thursday. The operation, launched based on specific intelligence provided by the JKP about a possible infiltration attempt in the Gurez sector, resulted in the neutralization of two terrorists attempting to enter the Valley from across the Line of Control.

The defence spokesperson confirmed the operation, which took place in the troubled Bandipora district. The operation was carried out in a traditional infiltration route for militants entering the Kashmir Valley, known as Gurez.

Among the neutralized terrorists was a local guide named Bagu Khan, aged 60. Khan, who had been assisting terrorists in sneaking into the Valley, particularly via Gurez, was known for his prominent role as a guide in the area. The other terrorist killed along with Khan was identified as Junaid, a Pakistani national.

The officials are currently attempting to identify the other killed terrorist, who is also a Pakistani national. The officials consider the killing of Khan a significant success due to his long history of aiding infiltration and his current base in Pakistan.

Khan had sneaked into the Valley multiple times and was previously associated with Hizbul Mujahideen in his early days. The official stated that the killing of Khan is a major setback to terrorists because he was working with multiple terror groups.

The army and JKP collaborated on the operation, with the army's search and patrol teams still in the area trying to ascertain the group compromised. The operation was successful in foiling another infiltration attempt, marking a significant victory in the ongoing battle against terrorism in the region.
