Two individuals sustain injuries following a collision.
A serious accident on Federal Road 311 near Oberdischingen in the Alb-Donau district has left a 27-year-old driver with severe injuries. The incident, which occurred yesterday, has been handed over to the local prosecutor for further investigation.
According to the police, the accident was caused by a seemingly distracted driver. The 27-year-old's active phone was recovered from the dashboard of their vehicle, and the police are currently investigating its role in the cause of the accident. The driver's phone records are being scrutinized as part of the investigation.
The accident involved a total of three vehicles. The 27-year-old driver rear-ended a stationary car, causing it to push into the vehicle ahead, a Volkswagen Passat. The driver of the Volkswagen Passat, a 42-year-old individual, was not injured in the accident. The 57-year-old driver of the car that was hit initially suffered moderately from injuries and was also taken to a hospital.
The accident caused extensive damage to the Volkswagen Passat, adding to the total property damage. The estimated property damage from the accident now stands at around 25,000 euros. The B311 was closed for a second time briefly to allow for the removal of the damaged vehicles and debris. The road was fully closed for approximately an hour due to the accident.
It is important to note that all registered vehicles in Germany must have a compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance covering damages caused by the vehicle's use. Therefore, the insurer responsible for the damages to the vehicles and the hospital costs of the 27-year-old and 57-year-old drivers is the motor vehicle liability insurer of the vehicle that caused the accident.
The authorities are urging all drivers to remain focused on the road and avoid distractions while driving to prevent such accidents from happening in the future. The investigation into the cause of this accident is ongoing.
