Two individuals fatally gunned down at Don Knabe Park, located in Cerritos.

A shooting incident took place on the evening of August 31, 2025, at Don Knabe Community Regional Park in Cerritos, leaving two men dead. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the incident.

The tragedy occurred at around 8:01 p.m. on Saturday in the 19700 block of Bloomfield Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing between 20 to 25 gunshots. The two victims, a 66-year-old businessman, and an unidentified man, were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Deputies were dispatched to the park in response to the incident. Numerous vehicles were observed leaving the scene at a high rate of speed. The suspects in the shooting are currently at large. Anyone with information is urged to contact authorities.

The park, which is currently known as Don Knabe Community Regional Park, will be renamed Don Knabe Regional Park to honour a termed-out supervisor. The renaming was approved by the Board of Supervisors following a unanimous vote.

In a more positive note, on March 30, 2025, a toddler was rescued from a lake at Don Knabe Community Regional Park in Cerritos and is expected to survive. On March 11, 2025, two people were arrested for a murder that occurred at Coyote Creek near Don Knabe Community Regional Park.

The cause of the shooting is currently unknown. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The community is urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The park remains open, and visitors are encouraged to continue enjoying the facilities, knowing that the necessary steps are being taken to ensure their safety.
