The Hamburg Film Prizes, an annual celebration of cinemas and initiatives that contribute to a diverse and innovative program cinema landscape, took place in 2025. The awards, endowed with 100,000 euros by the cultural authority, were presented at the Film Art Theater magazine.

Senator Carsten Brosda, the SPD's Senator for Culture in Hamburg, presided over the awards ceremony. He was joined by Helge Albers, Managing Director of Moin Film Promotion, who stated that Hamburg's cinemas enchanted with extraordinary film repertoire, creative formats, and great passion in the past program year.

The awards went to 16 program cinemas and initiatives in Hamburg. These included Abaton Kino (Rotherbaum), 3001 Kino (Sternschanze), Zeise Kinos (Ottensen), Studio Kino (Altona-Altstadt), B-Movie (St. Pauli), Koralle Lichtspielhaus (Volksdorf), Alabama Kino (Winterhude), Blankeneser Kino, Elbe Kino (Osdorf), FilmRaum (Eimsbüttel), Lichtmess (Ottensen), Magazin Filmkunsttheater (Winterhude), Savoy Filmtheater (St. Georg), Passage das Kino (Altstadt), and SchanzenKino73.

A special prize was given to the mobile cinema "A Wall is a Screen". The Moin Film Promotion supported the cinemas with an additional 100,000 euros through the Moin Cinema Bonus, a new award introduced this year. The bonus was created to highlight the special commitment of cinemas and say thank you to them, as they are considered the heart of the Hamburg film industry.

Carsten Brosda thanked the organizers for their dedicated work and commended the cinemas for their significant contribution to the city's cultural landscape. The Filmfest Hamburg 2025, organised by FILMFEST HAMBURG gGmbH, held the festival from September 25 to October 4 in Hamburg, during which Senator Carsten Brosda presented the awards.

The Hamburg Film Prizes and the Moin Cinema Bonus continue to recognise and support the city's cinemas, ensuring a vibrant and innovative film culture in Hamburg for years to come.
