New Horticultural Innovations at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2023

Tarragon Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus euosmus)

Caley Brothers have showcased this quick and easy-to-cultivate mushroom, bred by Adrian Ogden of Gourmet Woodland Mushrooms. Tarragon oyster mushroom can be grown on various substrates, including waste products like sawdust, making it accessible to anyone, regardless of space, experience, and budget.

Tulbaghia cominsii 'Fancy Pants'

Hoyland Plant Centre has presented this floriferous Tulbaghia, with a unique flower resembling a miniature cyclamen. The breeder is Steven Hickman. Plant Tulbaghia cominsii 'Fancy Pants' in full sun or part shade, and it will thrive, hardy down to -10C.

Scabiosa KUDO BLUE

Daisy Roots Nursery has exhibited this fully hardy and compact scabious, bearing many larger than average, bright blue pincushion flowers from spring to autumn. The supplier is Sarah Raven, and the breeder is Kaori Ichiba.

Rosa CHELSEA PENSIONER

Harkness Roses 1879 has exhibited this easy-to-grow Hybrid Tea rose. The colour of the blooms matches the iconic Chelsea Pensioners' uniform, and the blooms are proudly held and perfectly formed.

Trachelospermum STAR OF MILANO

Stonebarn & Gardeners' Question Time have exhibited this evergreen climber, which brings together two sought-after features - striking variegated foliage and pink flushed bicolour fragrant blooms. It reaches just 3mx2m, requiring no pruning or training.

Sempervivum GOLD MINE (Ggm2022) (Chick Charms GiantsSeries)

Sparsholt College Group has exhibited this hardy, drought-tolerant, and easy-to-grow plant. Dramatic colouration and huge rosettes to 30cm across make Sempervivum GOLD MINE a perfect patio or container plant. The supplier is Hilliers, and the breeder is Chris Hansen.

Papaver (Oriental Group) RED RUMBLE

Hare Spring Cottage Garden Plants and supplied by Hayloft Ltd have exhibited this poppy with repeat flowering, cupped, hand-sized flowers, and intensely coloured petals with multi-layers of ruffled petals. Its foliage stays healthy for longer and is less sensitive to disease. The breeder is Herbert Oudshoorn.

Salvia × jamensis BELLE DE LOIRE 'Barsabel'

Middleton Nurseries have exhibited this salvia, providing interest through a long flowering season with blooms changing from yellow and orange in spring transitioning through to cream and salmon in autumn. The supplier is Suttons, and the breeder is La Possonnière.

Prunus 'Starlight'

Green Jjam Nursery has exhibited this winter and spring flowering ornamental cherry. It has attractive and unusual pure white star-shaped flowers, with a profuse flowering habit in late March and can extend into April. The breeder is Ken Tobutt.

Petunia NICOLA (Tumbelina Series)

Sparsholt College Group and supplied by Kerley & Co have exhibited this new Petunia, featuring a new colour and flower shape, with a central flourish of petals and contrasting frame. It is weather tolerant and has sustainable peat-free performance. The breeder is Kerley & Co.
