Turkey's defense sector is penning history, according to Erdogan
In the vibrant city of Istanbul, Teknofest 2025 is set to take place under the joint leadership of the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation) and the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Industry and Technology. This annual event, now in its 11th edition in Turkey and 12th overall, promises to be a showcase of the country's impressive technological advancements.
Over the past 20 years, Turkey has made significant strides in developing homegrown air, land, and marine platforms. This transformation is evident in the range of innovations that will be on display at Teknofest. Beyond competitions, the festival hosts exhibitions, air shows, workshops, and panels, bringing together students, entrepreneurs, and tech enthusiasts.
One of the key highlights of Teknofest 2025 is the Steel Dome project. This initiative aims to provide integrated protection against low, medium, and high-altitude threats, marking a significant leap in Turkey's defense technology. A milestone was reached earlier this year when $460 million worth of components for Turkey's multilayered air defense system, known as "Steel Dome," were delivered to the military.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has praised Turkey's defense industry, calling it a symbol of resilience and innovation. He emphasized that Turkey's progress in defense technology inspires oppressed communities worldwide and is a source of national pride. Erdogan also announced that Turkey is building an even bigger drone carrier.
Visitors to Teknofest will have the opportunity to tour various military vessels, including the TCG Istanbul frigate, TCG Burgazada anti-submarine corvette, TCG Oruçreis frigate, TCG Nusret minelayer, TCG Sakarya, and TCG Hızırreis submarines. The TCG Anadolu, the flagship of the Turkish Navy and the world's first drone carrier, will also be open to the public.
The festival will feature a variety of competitions, including rocket design, unmanned aerial vehicles, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and underwater technologies. Visitors can expect to see the Bayraktar TB2 and TB3 drones, Kızılelma unmanned fighter jet, as well as armored vehicles like Zaha, Vuran, and Kobra.
Ankara has voiced frustrations over its Western allies' failure to provide adequate defense against missile threats, despite Turkey being a NATO member. This underscores the importance of homegrown defense technologies, a field in which Turkey has made significant strides.
Teknofest 2025 is not just a local event; it has attracted nearly 11 million people since its first edition in 2018. This year, the festival will be held in Istanbul from Sept. 17 through Sept. 21, following a special maritime-focused edition, Teknofest Blue Homeland, which was held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in May.
In conclusion, Teknofest 2025 promises to be an exciting event showcasing Turkey's technological progress, particularly in the field of defense technology. The festival is more than just a display of innovations; it is a testament to Turkey's resilience and commitment to technological advancement.
