Tubô Cebu Art Fair 2025 celebrates Cebu's artistic roots and evolution
The Tubô Cebu Art Fair 2025 wrapped up its eighth edition after three days of exhibitions, discussions, and live art. Held at Ayala Center Cebu from August 29 to 31, the event centred on the theme Provenance, exploring the roots and evolution of Cebu's contemporary art scene. Fair Director Allen Arvin Tan highlighted the community's role in shaping the fair's growth over the years. The fair opened with the launch of Si Jimsky ug ang Tanghaga sa Balay sa Balay sa Agta, a new book by Josua Cabrera. A key attraction was a special collection of works by Martino Abellana, widely regarded as the Dean of Cebuano Painters. His pieces anchored the event, drawing attention to Cebu's artistic legacy.
On August 30, the street art collective Writer's Block created a live mural at Atua Midtown, adding a dynamic element to the fair. The *Image of the Fair*—a collaborative artwork by Jonathan Abellana, Khriss Bajade, Gabi Nazareno, and John Villoria—was also unveiled during the event. The closing day featured **Tubô Talks**, including a panel on the provenance of Cebu's contemporary art and sessions with emerging Cebuano artists. Proceeds from the fair will support the Arts Council of Cebu's education programmes, reinforcing its commitment to local artistic development.
The eighth edition of the Tubô Cebu Art Fair concluded with a mix of exhibitions, discussions, and community engagement. The event's focus on provenance and its support for Cebuano artists ensured a strong cultural impact. All proceeds will fund future arts education initiatives in the region.
