Trump slams Joe Biden and NATO ahead of Davos trip after meeting Venezuelan leader

Former US President Donald Trump held a press conference ahead of his trip to Davos, where he criticised NATO, the United Nations, and President Joe Biden. He also showcased photos of detained immigrants while praising the work of immigration agencies. During the event, he spoke about his recent meeting with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, whom he described as 'incredibly charming.'

Last week, Trump met with Machado at the White House to discuss the Nobel Peace Prize medal she received in October. He called her actions 'truly remarkable' for personally delivering the award. The two reportedly discussed how she might be involved in future initiatives, though no specifics were given.

Machado, a prominent opposition figure in Venezuela, previously ran in the 2012 presidential primary but lost to Henrique Capriles. At the press conference, Trump repeatedly attacked Biden, calling him 'Sleepy Joe' and 'Crooked Joe' while blaming his administration for poor performance in multiple areas. He also displayed photos of detained immigrants, crediting ICE and Border Patrol for their enforcement efforts. On foreign policy, Trump questioned NATO’s commitment to US defence, despite claiming he had done more for the alliance than anyone else. He also dismissed the United Nations as 'not very useful' and suggested his proposed Peace Council could eventually replace it. In a lighter moment, he praised the Hispanic community, calling them 'incredible entrepreneurs' and expressing his admiration for them.

Trump’s remarks covered a wide range of topics, from immigration to foreign alliances. His meeting with Machado and his criticism of international bodies signal ongoing engagement in global and domestic political discussions. The press conference reinforced his stance on key issues ahead of his Davos appearance.
