Trump asserts that India and Russia seem to be "adrift" or "lost" in the "abysmal depths" of China

In a social media post published on September 5, 2022, US President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment over the apparent alignment of India and Russia with China. The post, made on his Truth Social platform, was accompanied by a photo of the leaders of China, India, and Russia together, taken during a summit in China.

The summit, attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, marked a significant gathering of world leaders. The three leaders were seen standing side by side, with Modi and Putin even holding hands, according to reports.

Trump's statement highlighted a perceived split between the US, India, and Russia, and suggested a potential new world order being pushed by China. However, representatives for Beijing and Moscow could not be immediately reached for comment on Trump's post, and the Indian foreign ministry spokesperson had no comment regarding the President's remarks.

Trump's comments have chilled US-India ties amid trade tensions and other disputes. The US President expressed being "very disappointed" in Putin but not worried about growing Russia-China ties.

The gathering in China was more than just a summit. Xi hosted more than 20 leaders of non-Western countries for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Tianjin. The SCO is a political, economic, and security organisation, which was founded in 2001 by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The warming ties between Modi and Xi, as well as the growing relationship between Russia and China, were on full display at the summit. The event underscores the shifting alliances and power dynamics in the global arena.
