The United States has been announced as the host for the 2026 G20 summit, marking the event's return to American soil after nearly 20 years. The summit, scheduled for Dec. 14-15, 2026, will take place at President Donald Trump's Doral Golf Resort in Miami, Florida.

Initially, President Trump had planned to host a G7 summit at his Doral resort in 2020, but the plan was cancelled due to criticism and ethical concerns. However, this time around, the White House has assured that Trump Doral will host the G20 event "at-cost" and will not profit from the summit.

The G20 forum, consisting of 19 countries, the European Union, and the African Union, represents approximately 85% of global GDP and over 75% of world trade. The agenda for the 2026 summit will focus on economic growth, reducing regulatory burdens, expanding affordable energy, and advancing new technologies.

In contrast to recent meetings, the 2026 G20 summit will have a smaller guest list. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is responsible for the preparations, will play a key role in focusing and organizing the summit. National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett will serve as the summit's point person.

President Trump has extended an invitation to Poland's newly elected president, Karol Nawrocki, to attend the 2026 G20 summit as an observer. The summit locations rotate among member nations, but the 2026 event will not be held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City, contrary to previous speculation.

The 2022 G20 summit is scheduled to take place in South Africa, while the 2026 summit was initially planned to be held in South Africa but will instead be hosted in the United States. Reports suggest that President Trump may skip the 2022 G20 summit due to disagreements over South Africa's treatment of white farmers.

The Doral resort, purchased by Trump in 2012, features four golf courses, a 48,000-square-foot spa, a 125-foot pool slide, and a 24,000-square-foot ballroom. The U.S. will adopt a "back-to-basics approach" for the 2026 G20 summit, focusing on economic growth and financial stability.
