Trump advocates for saving 100,000 American lives, while Democrats appear to overlook urban chaos in certain cities
In the United States, a troubling trend has emerged, with nearly 100,000 lives lost due to violence-related deaths last year. This alarming figure includes over 8,000 people a month who have succumbed to drug overdoses and murders, leading to families being torn apart, children being lost, and communities becoming unsafe.
President Donald Trump has taken strong measures to address this crisis, focusing on the border, organised crime, and street crime. His efforts have resulted in a decrease in the number of violence-related deaths compared to the previous year. California Governor Gavin Newsom is also taking a harder stance against crime, aiming to curb the rising violence.
However, the Democratic response to these measures has been met with criticism. Instead of collaborating on crime issues, some have chosen to "wail about 'authoritarianism'." Democratic leaders should have worked together to protect civil rights while addressing the issue of crime, ensuring that lives are not lost due to the continued rise in violence.
The focus under the Biden administration has been on racial equality and climate change, with the border issue largely being ignored. This lack of attention to the violence crisis has been a point of contention, with some considering it one of the great scandals of our time.
The areas with the highest numbers of deaths are five and ten times the national average. Cook County, for instance, had close to 1,800 deaths last year, with nearly 800 murders and over 1,000 drug overdoses. The majority of these deaths were due to opioids like fentanyl.
Interestingly, there are no campus protests, signs, or posters about saving lives or carjacking victims, despite the severity of the crisis. This denial of the reality is a concern for many, including Mark J. Penn, the chairman and CEO of Stagwell Inc. and chairman of the Harris Poll.
In a recent article, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser recognised the impact of Trump's measures, stating that they have brought crime down, taken guns off the street, and curtailed carjackings. This acknowledgement underscores the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing the crisis of violence in the United States.
As the nation continues to grapple with this issue, it is clear that action is needed to protect the lives of American citizens and ensure the safety of our communities. The denial of this reality is not only a scandal, but a tragedy that demands our immediate attention and action.
