In the intense aftermath of Inter Miami's loss to Seattle Sounders in the Leagues Cup final on Sunday night, former striker Luis Suarez found himself at the centre of a controversial incident.

As tensions flared near the middle of the pitch following the final whistle, a video emerged showing Suarez confronting a Sounders coach. The footage captured Suarez appearing to spit at the coach, an action that has caused widespread outrage and scrutiny.

The incident was not Suarez's first brush with controversy on the pitch. In 2011, he was banned for eight matches and fined by the English FA for making racist remarks towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra. During the 2014 World Cup, he was suspended for four months after biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Suarez's past is littered with such incidents, making global headlines on numerous occasions. During his time at Liverpool, he bit Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic, and he also bit Otman Bakkal during his time at Ajax.

Inter Miami's CEO, Jorge Mas, who is the owner of Inter Miami CF, has associated himself with the incident. The club has acknowledged the incident involving Suarez spitting on a Seattle staff member after the final whistle of the 2025 Leagues Cup final.

Moments earlier, players from both teams were seen grabbing each other by the neck and swinging punches, adding to the heated atmosphere. The Seattle Sounders emerged victorious in the match, winning 3-0.

As the fallout from the incident continues, Suarez's future with Inter Miami remains uncertain. The club and its fans will be hoping that this is not a reflection of the culture they are trying to cultivate, and that such behaviour will not be tolerated moving forward.
