Offensive remarks made by a team member - Travis Kelce responds to the controversy

Travis Kelce, a football player and Taylor Swift's partner, has reacted to the controversial comments made by his teammate, Harrison Butker. During a recent graduation speech at a Kansas college, Butker stated that the women in attendance were likely excited for marriage and future children. He also voiced opinions against abortion and the LGBTQ+ community.

Social media quickly spotted the statements, causing a widespread outcry. This was further fueled by Butker's reference to Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift, quoting a line from her song "Bejeweled": "Familiarity breeds contempt."

Kelce defends Butker as teammate while disagreeing with views

In response, Kelce spoke about Butker in his podcast, "New Heights." He expressed appreciation for him as a teammate but disagreed with his views. Kelce pointed out that he knew Butker to be kind and respectful towards friends and family and that he didn't think it was his place to judge him based on his religious beliefs.

The NFL, being the American football league, has distanced itself from Butker and his statements, as have the nuns from the Catholic university, Benedictine College.
