In September 2025, the city is set to host a unique and captivating event as part of its anniversary celebrations. Wanderkino, a mobile cinema that presents silent films, will be gracing our streets with a series of screenings accompanied by live music.
Established in 1999, Wanderkino has toured various countries, including Germany, France, Slovenia, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Czech Republic, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Spain, Portugal, Senegal, Sweden, Denmark, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Uruguay, Bolivia, Italy, Austria, Slovakia, Turkey, and Switzerland.
The first screening will take place at Berlin Square on Tuesday, 9th September at 8 PM, featuring the classic comedies "LIBERTY" starring Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy from 1929 and "Sherlock Jr." starring Buster Keaton from 1924.
On Wednesday, 10th September at 8 PM, Wanderkino will move to the Evangelical Church in Friedrichsdorf. The evening will feature the films "Easy Street" starring Charlie Chaplin from 1917, "Paris Sleeps" featuring René Clair from 1925, and "Honeymoon Hotel" starring Buster Keaton from 1920.
The live music for these events will be led by Sebastian Pank (saxophone, bass clarinet) and Tobias Rank (piano). Admission to Wanderkino events is free, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all.
The municipal department of culture is hosting these two evenings of silent films, aiming to bring a touch of history and culture to the city's anniversary celebrations.
