Travel advisory issued: DFS advises citizens to avoid unnecessary journeys due to melting and freezing conditions

In the Almaty region, a severe storm has led to a traffic collapse on the regional road section "Almaty - Ust-Kamenogorsk - Sanatorium 'Kapal-Arasan'" and the Almaty-Tashkent-Termez route.

According to a press release published by Saule Munataeva, head of the press service of the regional Emergency Situations Department, the closure was enforced at 15:00 (3 PM) on January 22, 2023. The adverse weather conditions, including strong wind, heavy snowfall, and poor visibility, have made the road surface resemble an ice rink.

A correspondent from Almaty.tv has been reporting on the situation, and the Emergency Situations Department of Almaty Region has issued a warning for citizens to refrain from traveling in this direction. The closure also affects the Almaty-Tashkent-Termez route, including the new Kordai pass from the village of Kenen to the village of Kainar.

The department also advises not to ignore messages from emergency services. Video footage shows a driver losing control and colliding with another vehicle, highlighting the dangerous conditions on the road.

The closure is not the only impact of the severe weather. The Almaty-Tashkent highway is currently experiencing blizzard conditions, making travel extremely difficult. No new travel advisories or warnings have been issued since the initial announcement.

Citizens are urged to stay informed and to avoid unnecessary travel in the affected areas until further notice. The Emergency Situations Department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
