The Breeze app, a groundbreaking travel planner designed to simplify journey planning, booking, and payment across the Solent region, has concluded after a successful trial period. The app, which surpassed 50,000 downloads during its operation, offered residents of Portsmouth, Southampton, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight access to all travel services in the region through a consolidated app.

The trial of the Breeze app, funded by the Department for Transport (DfT), has exceeded expectations in both scale and impact. Solent Transport, the programme responsible for the successful MaaS (Mobility as a Service) app trial, reported that Breeze users increased their use of public transport by 2.5% and reduced their car use by 3%. Furthermore, users were on average 76% more aware of the transport options available to them.

The achievements and innovations in mobility as a service will be recognised and celebrated at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025. The CiTTi Awards, an unmissable event for the UK's transportation sector, will take place at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London.

Chris Rust, the program director of the Solent Future Transport Zone, was responsible for the successful MaaS app trial and its results for the new metropolitan region. Tim Forrester, the Solent Future Transport Zone programme manager, expressed gratitude to the DfT for funding the exploration and innovation of Breeze and other projects in the Solent FTZ. Forrester is confident that the learnings and successes from the Breeze trial will support the new Mayoral Combined Authority in delivering improvements to transport services across the region.

65% of Breeze users utilised the app at least once a week, demonstrating its popularity and usefulness among residents. The Breeze app's positive impact on the Solent region has not gone unnoticed, with Solent Transport stating that it has been a significant step forward in promoting sustainable travel and reducing car usage.

As the trial concludes on Friday, 31 October, Breeze users are encouraged to make the most of the app until then.
