Transport and Tourism Committee Finalizes Critical Decisions in Closing Session

In a public meeting held on September 2, 2025, the Mobility and Traffic Spaces Committee addressed numerous transportation policy issues and made significant decisions that will shape the city's mobility landscape for years to come.

The committee's work during this legislative period has been instrumental in bringing about a series of important projects aimed at strengthening cycling and pedestrian traffic, promoting public transport usage, and enhancing traffic safety.

One of the key decisions made was the implementation of expansion stage 3 of Katterbachstraße, which will contribute to smoother traffic flow in the city. The design planning for the first construction phase between Kempener Straße and Leverkusener Straße has also been approved.

Another central topic of discussion was the redesign of Altenberger-Dom-Straße. The design planning for this project will be further refined and developed based on planning variant 3, which emerged from citizen participation.

The halt concept with the creation of barrier-free access was also decided upon, aiming to make the city more accessible for all its residents.

The committee's decisions will continue to be implemented in the responsible bodies after the upcoming elections. The city administration, tasked with providing the necessary budget and preparing the implementation of these decisions, expressed its gratitude to all members of the committee for their constructive cooperation and engaged exchange.

The administration was also tasked, along with IP GL, to continue the planning for a future-proof public transport connection. In this regard, IP GL will continue its work on planning for a future-proof public transport connection, as previously tasked by the committee.

However, the meeting did not discuss the Britanniahuette street crossing or the expansion of the S-Bahn. The design planning for Friesenstraße will be further specified and developed, with more details to be revealed in due course.

The committee's work has resulted in numerous future-oriented and important projects in the areas of mobility, traffic safety, and sustainable urban development. The city is now one step closer to a more connected, efficient, and sustainable transportation system.
