Transneft North Honors Afanasyev's 200th Birthday with Folk Tale Calendar

Transneft North has released a special calendar to honour the 200th birthday of Alexander Nikolayevich Afanasyev, the famed collector of Russian folk tales. The project also supports families of employees involved in the special military operation by gifting them copies. Over 50 preschools in the Republic of Komi, Arkhangelsk Oblast, and Vologda Oblast have additionally received the themed publication. The calendar blends vivid illustrations with educational material, drawing inspiration from Afanasyev's anthology of folk stories. Its purpose is to introduce young children to the depth of the Russian language and traditional wisdom. The release coincides with National Fairy Tale Day on April 6, a date chosen in 2004 to mark the 200th anniversary of Afanasyev's first published collection.

No other Russian organisations have been reported in recent years to have launched similar initiatives promoting Russian folklore or commemorating Afanasyev on this scale. The project stands out as both an educational tool and a gesture of recognition for employees' families.

The calendar will now be used in preschools across three regions, offering children early exposure to classic Russian tales. Families of Transneft North employees serving in the special military operation have also received copies. The initiative marks a rare effort to celebrate Afanasyev's legacy through a practical and widely distributed resource.
