Transform the origin of your preferred sounds with the innovative Bang & Olufsen Atelier customization service
Bang & Olufsen, the renowned Danish audio company, has taken a bold step away from its clean, Scandi roots with the launch of its new service, Atelier. This service offers a wide array of customization options for select products, marking a move towards a more bespoke approach to audio for homes.
The Atelier service is a three-tiered system that brings bespoke finishes and materials to the range. It includes options for 20 different colors for aluminum finishes, 10 different species of wood, and 35 different fabrics for speaker coverings. This extensive selection allows customers to create a design that truly resonates with their personal style and taste.
One of the highlights of the Atelier service is the Limited-Edition collection, the Beosound 2 Gradient Collection. This collection features ten different color-graded finishes, each limited to ten pairs of speakers. Bang & Olufsen has already built a gold-plated record player and added a glittering bronze mesh to the flagship Beolab 90 speakers, resulting in the Alchemy Edition Beolab 90, setting a precedent for the level of customization offered.
The Atelier Bespoke service takes this customization to the next level. Customers can specify custom gradients and fades, with some requiring extensive testing in the company's factory. A new anodizing bath with a robotic arm has been set up to help with the precise grading and dip times of the new finishes. The customization work for the Limited-Edition collection and other enhanced products in the Atelier range is done on site at the Bang & Olufsen factory in Struer, Denmark.
Kristian TeaΜr, CEO of Bang & Olufsen, explains, "A customer who commissions a custom or bespoke Bang & Olufsen product creates an extension of their personality and style. Our aim is to create an experience and a product that resonates with them, building a lasting relationship between Bang & Olufsen and the customer."
The Atelier service is available for six models, including the Beosound 2 speakers, Beolab 8, Beolab 28, Beolab 50, Beolab 90 speakers, and Harmony and Theatre televisions. Customers can match their favorite colors and fabrics with Bespoke products, and the lead time for Bespoke projects can be up to a year.
In addition to the physical customization options, Bang & Olufsen has also introduced an AR feature for iPhones that will allow B&O Atelier products to be virtually placed in living spaces. This feature is coming soon and will further enhance the customer's ability to visualize their custom-designed audio system in their home.
Bang & Olufsen has previously lent its aesthetic and reputation to other brands, including Ferrari, MonoNeon, and David Lynch. The Atelier Editions is the new umbrella for Bang & Olufsen's collaborative and limited-edition products, housing existing partnerships like Ferrari and Riva Yachts, as well as new ventures.
The first products of the Atelier Bespoke series were presented in September 2020 in Copenhagen. The Atelier Catalogue, which provides options for two finishes for each color and ten different color oak stains, is available in Bang & Olufsen's flagship stores. Customers can create a design on the dedicated Composer on the B&O website and save it for later discussion in a store.
With the Atelier service, Bang & Olufsen is offering its customers a unique opportunity to express their individuality through their audio equipment. The service is a testament to Bang & Olufsen's commitment to innovation and its dedication to providing its customers with exceptional, personalized experiences.
