In a recent development, the tram extension project to Krampnitz in Potsdam is being rebooted by ViP Verkehrsbetrieb Potsdam GmbH, following the termination of the contract with Arbeitsgemeinschaft Obermeyer/Ramboll.

The decision to terminate the contract was due to significant delays and a demand for a bank guarantee of over one million euros, as stated by Uwe Loeschmann, the managing director of ViP. The termination of cooperation, according to Loeschmann, opens up the opportunity to continue the project with new partners.

The future tram connection to Krampnitz will include a new bridge across the Havel, aiming to closely connect the new quarter in Krampnitz with the existing infrastructure. The tram extension will be operated entirely with green electricity, aligning with the city's ecological goals.

The planning approval procedures for the double-track expansion in the area of the Red Barracks and for the new section from the Campus Jungfernsee have already begun. Both procedures are currently in the review and display phase.

The termination of the contract by ViP occurred before they could obtain the necessary committee decisions. However, ViP is working with the responsible authorities to advance the plans without further delays.

The ARGE (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Obermeyer/Ramboll) temporarily stopped work after the Landesbetrieb fΓΌr Bauen und Verkehr demanded improvements. Since the value limits are not exceeded, a Europe-wide tender is not necessary, and the organization currently preparing the re-selection for the remaining planning phases of the streetcar project to Krampnitz is ViP themselves.

A new tender is being prepared for the tram project to Krampnitz. ViP is currently preparing the tenders for the missing planning phases. The tram extension to Krampnitz is seen as a key urban development project.

The city of Potsdam is optimistic about the rebooted tram project, hoping for its timely completion to improve the city's transportation infrastructure and contribute to its sustainable development.
