Training contracts rise by 236,500 by August's end, reported by DIHK

The current training year has begun on a positive note, with the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) viewing it optimistically. Despite the year already being underway, it is still possible for individuals to join in and take advantage of the opportunities available.

As of the start of the year, around 5,000 free training places are available in the IHK training exchange. These places are spread across various sectors, including transport and logistics, retail, construction industry, building and supply technology professions, industrial mechanics, and sanitary, heating, and air conditioning technology. The demand for skilled professionals in these areas remains significant, as stated by DIHK President Peter Adrian.

The number of new training contracts registered nationwide by the end of August 2021 was approximately one percent more than in the previous year, with 236,500 new contracts registered. This increase is a promising sign, and DIHK President Adrian is confident that the trend of increasing training contracts will continue.

However, a significant decrease in training applicants has been reported, according to Adrian. This shortage of applicants contradicts the optimistic view of the training year. In light of this, Adrian is appealing to undecided young people to join businesses and foster young talent, which is a top priority for companies.

The IHKs are actively promoting dual training and are working to bring together school leavers and businesses in the final months of the year. They are committed to ensuring that everyone who is interested in vocational training has the opportunity to find a suitable place.

Adrian's appeal is directed towards adolescents and young adults whose start in vocational training this year has not yet succeeded or who are looking for a suitable alternative. He believes that these young people could find a perfect fit in one of the sectors with a high demand for skilled professionals.

Fostering young talent is a top priority for companies, according to DIHK President Adrian. By joining a training programme, young people can gain valuable skills and experience, setting themselves up for a successful career in their chosen field.

In conclusion, the current training year is off to a promising start, with the DIHK viewing it optimistically. Despite the decrease in training applicants, there are still around 5,000 free training places available in the IHK training exchange for the start of the year. Young people who are undecided about entering vocational training in one of the high-demand sectors are encouraged to consider the opportunities available and to join businesses.
