Woman Arrested for Suspected Large-Scale Marijuana Import

In a significant development, a 38-year-old woman was temporarily arrested by customs officers at the Main Customs Office Lörrach on August 4, 2025. The arrest took place on an ICE train route between Basel and Freiburg.

According to reports, the woman was asked to leave the train in Freiburg along with customs officials after two unassigned suitcases were found in the luggage rack above her seat. Video material review confirmed that she boarded the train in Basel with the suitcases.

The suitcases contained a total of eight packages wrapped in black foil, which appeared to contain marijuana. The total weight of the suspected marijuana was determined to be 12.6 kilograms, making it a significant seizure.

On August 5, a warrant was issued by the examining magistrate at the Lörrach District Court for the 38-year-old on suspicion of illegal import of cannabis. The arrest was due to suspicion of illegal import of a large quantity of marijuana, but no new information about the ongoing investigation was provided.
