Train employee fatally struck on regional railway tracks
Tragedy on the Tracks: Young Worker Killed in Munich-Ingolstadt Line Accident
A tragic incident occurred on the Munich-Ingolstadt railway line earlier today, claiming the life of a 21-year-old railway track maintenance worker. The incident disrupted regional and long-distance trains for several hours in the morning.
The incident took place in Baar-Ebenhausen, a district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm. According to reports, the victim was struck by a train while working on the tracks. The regional train driver applied the brakes immediately upon seeing the worker, but the collision could not be prevented.
The Deutsche Bahn, the railway company operating on this line, set up a replacement bus service during the closure, and ICE trains were rerouted as a result of the incident. The fire service evacuated approximately 300 passengers from the regional train and transported them to Ingolstadt main station by bus.
The victim's colleagues were provided with psychological support at a nearby fire station. Warning and safety devices were in operation at the time of the accident, and rescue services attempted to revive the 21-year-old at the scene, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The single-track section on the Munich-Ingolstadt line was closed to both regional and long-distance traffic for several hours due to the incident. Trains were regularly running on the track next to the construction site at reduced speed at the time of the accident.
The cause of the accident is currently being investigated by the Ingolstadt criminal police with the help of an independent expert. The police are also investigating the incident. No further information about the identity of the victim or the train involved has been released.
The line reopened around 1:00 PM, and the Deutsche Bahn is currently cooperating with the Ingolstadt police to clarify the circumstances of the accident on the railway line between Munich and Ingolstadt. Our thoughts are with the family and colleagues of the victim during this difficult time.
