Brauss' acting career began in 1963 with his debut in the film "Delay in Marienborn". His first stage experience was gained while studying at the University of Wyoming in the USA. Before venturing into acting, Brauss had an athletic background, being the German youth champion in pole vaulting in his hometown of Augsburg. After his athletic career, he received a scholarship for the University of Wyoming, where he studied mathematics and economics.

Brauss' career spanned multiple countries, with productions not only in Germany, but also abroad. He acted alongside notable actors such as Jeanne Moreau and Burt Lancaster in "The Train" in 1964 and Wim Wenders in "The Goalkeeper's Fear of the Penalty" in 1972. In recent years, Brauss had largely withdrawn from television and the public eye.

One of Brauss' most memorable roles was that of police officer Richard Block in "Großstadtrevier", which aired from 1986 to 1991. He appeared in over 100 productions, including "Der Alte", "Munich Stories", "Polizeiruf 110", "The Black Forest Clinic", "Derrick" and "Commissario Laurenti".
