Tragic Crash on New York State Highway: Five Fatalities and Numerous Injuries Reported on Tour Bus Route
In a tragic incident, a tourist bus overturned on Interstate 90 in Pembroke, New York State, causing the deaths of at least five people and leaving over 40 others injured. The accident occurred on Friday.
The bus, carrying 54 people, was returning from a trip to Niagara Falls. The majority of the passengers were of Filipino, Chinese, and Indian origin, but no minors were among the deceased.
The driver of the bus survived the accident and is cooperating with authorities. The authorities suspect distraction as a potential cause of the accident.
The crash happened in Pembroke, about 40 kilometers from Buffalo. As a result, the highway has been closed in both directions due to the accident, causing significant delays at the start of one of the last weekends of the summer vacation in the US.
More than 40 injured people were transported to hospitals in the region by helicopter and ground services. At least two people are expected to undergo surgery for exposed fractures at a public health center in Buffalo.
The authorities continue to investigate the causes of the accident, with distraction as a potential cause. The name of the bus company and the identities of the victims have not been disclosed at this time.
