Traffic speed on the Madrid-Andalusia route has been brought back up following a three-hour interruption caused by a fire in Toledo.

In the heart of Spain, a fire that started at 18:31 according to the 112 emergency service has caused disruption to high-speed rail traffic in Toledo. The blaze began inside a plastics recycling plant situated in the La Torrecilla Chica industrial park in Yeles, a municipality within the province.

The fire has affected the rail connection between Madrid and Andalusia, as well as traffic to Castilla-La Mancha. As a result, up to 30 trains have been affected, and Renfe, the Spanish railway operator, reported that more than 20 of its trains have been impacted, with an estimated 7,000 passengers affected.

The plant where the fire started has not resumed operations, and four trains remain unable to leave their stations until traffic normalises. Additionally, two Ouigo trains, bound for Malaga, were unable to depart from their destinations - the Ouigo from Sevilla at 19:44 and the Ouigo from Atocha at 19:50.

Several specific trains have been delayed, including the AVLO Madrid-Malaga, the AVANT Toledo-Madrid, the AVANT that left Madrid at 18:45 for Toledo, the AVE Sevilla-Barcelona, the AVE Malaga-Madrid, the AVE that left Sevilla at 16:53 for Valencia, the AVE that left Murcia at 15:32 for Malaga, the AVE Figueres-Sevilla, the AVE Sevilla-Madrid, and the AVE Malaga-Barcelona.

Fortunately, no personal injuries have been reported. Local police officers have been deployed to the scene, and firefighters from Illescas are working diligently to extinguish the fire.

Despite the ongoing efforts, the fire is still not fully under control, and it remains ongoing. The cause of the fire in the plastic processing factory has not been publicly disclosed or attributed to any individual at this time.

Following the intervention of emergency services and infrastructure checks, traffic between Yeles and La Sagra has resumed. However, passengers are advised to check the status of their trains before travelling, as delays and cancellations may still occur.
