Traffic Safety Monitored During Peak Travel Time: Officials Oversee Camper and Vehicle Convoys, Few Infractions Occur, High Approval Ratings
The South East Hesse Police Headquarters carried out a targeted traffic control on Autobahn 3 in Rodgau on Tuesday, focusing on motorhomes and vehicle combinations. The aim of the control was to identify possible overloading among travelers, a safety concern on heavily frequented highways.
During the multi-hour control, a total of 21 motorhomes, including vehicle combinations, and three trucks were inspected. Four motorhomes were found to be slightly overloaded, requiring drivers to redistribute cargo on the spot before continuing. One driver is facing a criminal proceeding for the suspicion of driving without a license and had to post a security deposit of 500 euros.
The authority responsible for the traffic control was the Police Highway Station Southeast Hesse (Polizeiautobahnstation Südosthessen). The officers checked the permissible total weight, proper cargo securing, and the technical equipment of the vehicles.
The control also enforced a violation of the applicable social regulations, but it was well-received by the travelers. Many drivers showed understanding for the measure and used the opportunity to inform themselves about technical regulations and safe loading.
It is important to pay attention to the permissible total weight during the holiday season, as overloading not only endangers one's own safety but also that of other road users. The South East Hesse Police Headquarters announced punctual spot checks will take place in the coming weeks.
