Detmold Fire Department Responds to Hazardous Material Leak

The Detmold Fire Department responded to an emergency call at 15:21 on Lemgoer Straße/corner B66 (South Bypass), where a farming machine had lost approximately 200 liters of fertilizer, causing a significant contamination of the road.

The operation, which involved personnel from the main office, the North and Middle fire stations of the Detmold Fire Department, as well as external support from the Lemgo Fire Department, was concluded around 17:30.

The spilled fertilizer was promptly pumped out after the leak was sealed by a specialized company. To ensure the safety of the public and the environment, the Detmold Fire Department spread chemical binders over the affected area. Following a police inspection, the road was reopened to traffic.

Marco Schweiger, the Press and Public Relations Officer of the Detmold Fire Department, shared that the farming machine was carrying about 4,000 liters of fertilizer in total. He also mentioned that a local emergency response or utility service was likely responsible for sealing the leak, but specific company details are not publicly available.

For further inquiries, individuals can contact Marco Schweiger at [email protected] or +49 (0)160 9062 1826. The Detmold Fire Department's website is www.feuerwehr-detmold.org for more information.

It is worth noting that a street sweeper from the Lemgo Fire Department was called in but was not needed in this operation.

The Detmold Fire Department, with its commitment to public safety, successfully managed the hazardous material leak and ensured the swift return of normal traffic conditions.
