Mystery Surrounds City Hall Fire in Neuss

A fire that broke out beneath the loading ramp of Neuss City Hall on Monday, 10th May, 2021, at around 4:00 AM, has left authorities puzzled as the person responsible remains unidentified.

The intense heat from the fire caused significant damage, with plaster cracking and falling from the ceiling over a length of one and a half meters. Soot deposits were also found in the area of a light shaft, suggesting a potential source of the fire.

Initial examination points towards the fire being caused by careless handling of an open fire or ember remnants by an unhoused person. However, the exact cause remains undetermined, with experts from the Criminal Investigation Department 11 currently investigating the incident.

The police are appealing for any information that could help clarify the situation. If you have any details, please contact them at 02131 300-0.
