Detmold Embraces Inclusion in Sports: "Sport Inclusive" Project Launched

Detmold, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, has taken a significant step towards promoting the participation of people with disabilities in sports. The "Sport inclusive" project, which started on July 1, 2023, is funded by the LWL Social Foundation gGmbH and aims to sustainably expand the range of movement and sports activities for people with disabilities and remove barriers.

The project is being adapted to the needs of people with cognitive impairments, ensuring that the training provided is inclusive and accessible. As of the project period, 46 instructors have been specifically trained for inclusive sport in Detmold, with the project covering training costs until April 2026.

The city's commitment to inclusion is evident in the increase of inclusive club offers in Detmold, which has risen to 24. Open offers like F.I.T. mobile, open sports hall, and Hermi run in Detmold are now accessible and designed to be inclusive for all.

For inquiries about the "Sport inclusive" project, residents can contact Daniela Lang at 05231 977 201. A consultation hour has been set up at Heimspiel OWL, Marktplatz 3, Detmold, for information, advice, and support on inclusive sports offers and funding opportunities, every Tuesday from 10 to 13 o'clock. The contact email for inquiries is [sportinklusiv@our website].

Detmold officially became the focus municipality for sport and inclusion on mid-May 2025, further solidifying its commitment to inclusion in sports. The city is also receiving additional support from Special Olympics NRW to further strengthen inclusion in sport and permanently anchor it in the city's society.

The press release about the "Sport inclusive" project is available on the city portal, providing more information about this important initiative. The promotion of the participation of people with disabilities in sport will remain a central concern of Detmold's sports development planning even after the project ends.
